Upper Dolpo Trekking
Nestled in the remote reaches of Nepal, Dolpa is a hidden gem, with Shey Phoksundo National Park as its crowning jewel. To the east and south, the majestic Dhaulagiri and Churen Himal ranges form a natural boundary, while the Jumla district lies to the west. Embarking on a trek to Lower Dolpa promises an extraordinary and once-in-a-lifetime adventure. This region is renowned for its stunning snow-capped peaks, ancient and secluded villages, diverse wildlife, revered Buddhist monasteries, and picturesque lakes. The locals are known for their simplicity, warmth, and captivating cultural heritage, deeply rooted in Tibetan traditions.
Venturing into this area grants you access to the high-altitude, isolated valleys of the Himalayas, reminiscent of the Tibetan highlands. The highlight of this journey is undoubtedly Shey Phoksundo National Park, the largest national park in Nepal. Another standout feature is Shey Phoksundo Lake, which is devoid of aquatic life, a fact underscored by its crystal-clear waters. Surrounded by rugged cliffs, dense forests, and snow-capped peaks, the area has earned its reputation as one of the world’s “Natural Hidden Wonders.”
The trek commences in Juphal and follows a trail to Dunai, then ascends to Tarakot, and reaches its highest point at Bang la Camp. After traversing through the quaint village of Sanu Bheri, you’ll descend to the breathtaking Phoksundo Lake, which is part of Shey Phoksundo National Park.
