Overview of the 17-Day Phaplu to Everest Base Camp Trek

The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Phaplu, offering glimpses of terraced farmlands, rivers, hills, and remote Nepali villages. From Phaplu, the trek officially starts as you head towards Nunthala, and for several days you’ll explore the vibrant cultural landscape of villages such as Ringmu, Taksindu, Jubing, Kharikhola, and Bupsa Danda.

After reaching Paiya, the trail merges with the main EBC route, continuing through iconic Everest region stops including Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorak Shep. Along the way, you’ll traverse forests of fir, pine, rhododendron, and juniper, and ascend to landmarks like Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and Kala Patthar (5,545 m) for stunning views of Everest and its surrounding giants.

The trek concludes with a flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, offering a final aerial view of the Himalayas to end your unforgettable adventure.

Day 02 :
Drive from Kathmandu to Phaplu (10–12 hours, by local sharing jeep)

After an early breakfast, you will begin your overland

Though the drive is long, it’s filled with scenic views of rivers, terraced farmlands, and the Himalayan foothills. The route crosses a bridge over the Sun Koshi River and continues through Okhaldhunga, offering glimpses of Numbur Himal and Everest.

Day 03 :
Trek from Phaplu to Nunthala (5–6 hours)

Your trekking adventure begins today. The trail ascends gradually through forested paths and picturesque villages to Ringmu and then up to Taksindu (2,960m), where you may visit the local monastery. From here, the trail descends through culturally rich villages inhabited by Rai, Magar, and Chhetri communities to reach Nunthala.

Day 04 :
Trek to Kharikhola (5–6 hours)

Today's trail descends to cross the Dudh Koshi River before climbing up to Jubing. You’ll walk through trails lined with prayer flags and rhododendrons, eventually ascending to Kharikhola village (2,985m).

Day 05 :
Trek to Paiyu (5–6 hours)

The day begins with a steep climb from Kharikhola to Bupsa Danda, known for panoramic views. The trail then passes through dense woodlands before reaching Paiyu, a quiet village nestled in the forest.

Day 06 :
Trek to Phakding (5–6 hours)

Descending to Surke, you’ll walk through Sherpa villages adorned with prayer flags. From Surke, the trail includes a series of ups and downs before arriving at the riverside village of Phakding.

Day 07 :
Trek to Namche Bazaar (5–6 hours)

After crossing suspension bridges and passing villages like Banker and Manjo, you’ll enter Sagarmatha National Park. The forested trail becomes steeper as you approach Namche Bazaar, where you’ll be rewarded with views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and Lhotse.

Day 08 :
Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

Today is a rest day to acclimatize to the altitude. You can explore Namche, visit the local museum, or hike to Everest View Hotel for breathtaking views of the Himalayan giants.

Day 09 :
Trek to Tengboche (5–6 hours)

After breakfast, trek to Tengboche via Kyanjuma and lush rhododendron forests. Upon reaching Tengboche (3,860m), visit the famed Tengboche Monastery and enjoy the stunning mountain panorama.

Day 10 :
Trek to Dingboche (5–6 hours)

Descend through forested trails to Deboche and cross a suspension bridge over the Imja River. Pass Mani walls and chortens before reaching Dingboche (4,410m), a scenic village with terraced fields.

Day 11 :
Acclimatization Day in Dingboche

Take another rest day for altitude adjustment. You may relax or opt for a hike to Chhukung Ri, offering panoramic views of Island Peak and Lhotse.

Day 12 :
Trek to Lobuche (4–5 hours)

Begin with a gradual ascent through yak pastures before climbing the challenging Thokla Pass. Enjoy dramatic views of Nuptse and Lhotse as you make your way to Lobuche (4,910m).

Day 13 :
Trek to Gorak Shep & Everest Base Camp (3 hours)

Today is the highlight of the trek. Hike to Gorak Shep, drop your bags, then continue to Everest Base Camp (5,364m). Celebrate your achievement surrounded by towering peaks and return to Gorak Shep for the night.

Day 14 :
Hike to Kalapatthar, then trek to Pheriche

Rise early to climb Kalapatthar (5,550m) for a breathtaking sunrise over Everest and panoramic views of surrounding peaks. After soaking in the vistas, descend to Pheriche for overnight.

Day 15 :
Trek to Namche Bazaar

Enjoy a long but scenic descent to Namche Bazaar, passing through villages like Pangboche and Thame. Back in Namche, reconnect to Wi-Fi, call loved ones, or enjoy a celebratory drink.

Day 16 :
Trek to Lukla (6–7 hours)

Your final trekking day leads you across suspension bridges and through forested trails back to Lukla. Enjoy your last evening in the mountains.

Day 17 :
Fly to Kathmandu (Morning flight)

Catch a scenic morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel for rest or exploration.

Day 18 :
Departure from Kathmandu
