Makalu Expedition
Nestled 22 km east of Mount Everest and between Everest and Kanchenjunga, this mountain stands majestically on the Nepali-Tibetan border. Its sheer size is impressive, but its perfectly pyramid-shaped structure, complete with four sharp ridges, adds to its magnificence. This peak is not only a visual marvel but also a challenging and potentially hazardous climb, with only five successful ascents out of the first sixteen attempts. It had long been observed and studied by various Everest expeditions but was not attempted until after Everest’s summit was reached in 1954. The French were the first to conquer it in 1955.
Our expedition will start with a trek from Tumlingtar, located above the Arun River, to Makalu Base Camp at an altitude of approximately 5100m. We will ascend via the Northwest Ridge, establishing four high camps along the way. Our skilled and professional high-altitude climbing sherpas will fix ropes as needed. Depending on our fitness levels, we will make several trips up and down the mountain to acclimatize and stock the higher camps. The expedition is fully supported, with all base camp and high camp services provided. Teamwork is crucial for successfully reaching the summit of Mt. Makalu.
