Annapurna Mohare Danda Trek
The Mohare Danda Trek is nestled in the Myagdi District, flanked by the majestic Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountains. This trek is part of the well-trodden Annapurna Region, known as the hill station of the entire area.
The Mohare Danda Trek in the Annapurna Region serves as an alternative to the popular Ghorepani route. It introduces trekkers to the warm and humble villagers of the Magar community. For those seeking a tranquil trekking experience without the crowds, this is one of the most serene and picturesque options in Nepal.
The trekking trail to Mohare Danda is relatively new to many, situated 200-300 meters above the renowned Poon Hill trail. It is a pristine trek that takes you through dense forests, steep ridges, and high-altitude pastures.
Visitors have the option to start their trek from either Beni or Nayapul, both located in the scenic city of Pokhara. The route from Beni is quieter, with fewer visitors, and offers the chance for homestay accommodations. In contrast, the route from Nayapul follows the more commercial path to Ghorepani Poon Hill before diverging to lead directly to Mohare. The choice of starting point does not affect the total number of trekking days.
The trek typically lasts no more than twelve days. Throughout the journey, you will be immersed in the rich culture, stunning natural beauty, friendly locals, and breathtaking views of one of the world’s longest mountain ranges.
Overview of the 11-Day Annapurna Mohare Danda Trek
The Annapurna Mohare Danda Trek begins in Pokhara, with a short drive from Kathmandu. Key stops along the trek include Galeshwor, Bans Kharka, Naangi, Deaurali, Ghandruk village, and Nayapul, among others.
During the trek, you will be warmly welcomed by the culturally rich Magar and Gurung communities, each with their unique lifestyles. You will also have the opportunity to drive along the Kali Gandaki River, one of Nepal’s most famous rivers.
The area boasts reliable electricity and internet access, thanks to its connection to the birthplace of Mahabir Pun, a prominent IT figure in Nepal who introduced wireless technologies to remote areas. This means you can stay connected with loved ones throughout the trek.
The main allure of the Mohare Danda Trek is the eco-lodge community-based experience in the beautiful Annapurna Region. You will enjoy panoramic views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountain ranges. The trek also offers a chance to explore the lesser-known villages of the Magar community and experience their culture and traditions, which are typical of rural Nepal. Additionally, you will have wonderful views of the Kali Gandaki and Trishuli Rivers during the drive.
In each village, you can visit local projects and purchase local products, contributing directly to the community rather than to individual vendors.
The highlight of the trek is Mohare Hill (Danda), standing at an altitude of 3300 meters. It offers stunning views of the highest mountain ranges, including Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Visitors can witness some of the best sunrise and sunset views from the Mohare viewpoint.
There are various itinerary options for this trek, but the one provided focuses solely on climbing Mohare Hill (Danda) and ends at Tiplyang, from where you can take overland transportation back to Pokhara.
This trek provides trekkers with the opportunity to enjoy panoramic views, peaceful nature, rural village life, and a sense of cultural immersion, making it a fulfilling and rewarding experience.
