Jumolhari Base Camp Trek
Chomolhari, also spelled Jhomolhari and rising 7,316 meters above sea level, is known as the “Mountain Goddess of Glory.” It is accompanied by five neighboring peaks that feed the Paro Chu River, which in turn sustains the fertile rice terraces and abundant fruit orchards—apples and peaches—of the Paro Valley. Deeply sacred to the people of Bhutan, this majestic mountain is not only revered but also anchors one of the most well-loved trekking routes in the eastern Himalayas.
The trek sets off from Drugyel Dzong, tracing a timeworn trade route that leads to Chomolhari’s base camp. Along the way, travelers pass remote villages, cultivated fields, and thick, verdant forests, eventually ascending to high-altitude grazing lands where yaks roam freely. The route reveals a stunning range of Bhutan’s landscapes and offers a rich cultural and natural experience.
